Hello and welcome from the Bahrain International Circuit here in Sakhir. Where the drivers are down on the grid going through the last checks with their engineers before we can get underway. Formula 1 returns to the desert today on this exceptional 3.36 mile circuit. Fifteen corners provide plenty of overtaking opportunities and 2 DRS-zones will help with that as well. It could be a strategic race, this one with Sakhir notorious for eating up the rear tyres. Watch out for drivers managing their rubber at some point during the Grand Prix. As the drivers complete their preparations down below us on the grid one man who’s no stranger to the pre-race pressure is Anthony Davidson who joins me in the commentary box today. Great to have you with us, Ant I’m sure you can tell us all about what goes through a driver’s head before lights out. From the moment qualifying is over you start to feel the adrenaline in your body build up and the buzz in your stomach as you anticipate the run down into Turn 1. It’s all a bit like going into battle. The unknown situation makes you nervous. Those pre-race nerves are a good thing. The day you don’t have them means that you don’t care anymore. And of course you have to make sure that all the procedures are second nature to you. So that they’re not taking up too much of your capacity. “Keep your eyes open on the run to Turn 1 and keep it clean.” “We wanna come out in one piece.” “Good luck!” So before the off, let’s remind ourselves of yesterday’s qualifying session with a look at the starting grid: Sebastian Vettel will start on pole. Fantastic qualifying from the multiple world champion! and it’s Lewis Hamilton alongside. Looking down the rest of the grid, we have: Verstappen – Massa Daniel Ricciardo – and Rosberg Bottas – Raikkonen Hulkenberg – and Fernando Alonso Button – Sainz Daniil Kvyat – and Grosjean Gutiérrez – Palmer Felipe Nasr – and Kevin Magnussen Wehrlein – and Ericsson Rio Haryanto and Sergio Pérez rounds off the grid. And with preparations almost complete let’s head down to the track! “Good job! You did really well.” “Super driving!” Brilliant stuff from Mercedes today! That’s another historic win. Anthony, what do you think made the difference here? Well, the Safety Car completely changed the race, didn’t it? It’s hard to say exactly what would’ve happened without it but there’s no question that they came out of that situation in a good position. Well, this is it! This is where they all want to be. Here come the top 3, then. Out onto the podium after a fascinating Grand Prix. And now let’s take a look at the driver standings: Lewis Hamilton takes over the lead of the drivers’ championship after an excellent result. Now then, Anthony Davidson who was your driver of the day? Let’s give it to Sergio Pérez. That was a commanding performance today. Very impressive indeed. There will be plenty more twists and turns to come this season I hope you can join us at the next race to see just who will come out on top!
